Garbage Can Reminder !!!
All residents in Town
recently received a very large blue trash can. This can is for
trash only.
The black can received a few years ago is still used for
recycling.
All household trash needs to be put curbside in a trash can
with a lid preferably in the new blue can.
If the new can is too cumbersome
than any can with a tight fitting lid can be used . Trash is
still being put out in
plastic bags and making a
mess when the bags break open or rip.
Do not block sidewalks
with trash cans or other trash. Please help keep
Landover Hills clean by
putting out your trash properly.
Tires
If you have old
tires that you need to get rid of, please place them at the
curbside for pick- up. They will not be picked up by the trash
company, but by the public works department for disposal. If
you would like to arrange a special pick-up for tires,
call Town Hall at 301-773- 6401.

In Case of Emergency (ICE)
Paramedics will turn to a victim's cell phone for clues to that persons identity. You can make their job much easier with a simple idea that they are trying to get everyone to adopt: ICE.
ICE stands for In Case of Emergency. If you add an entry in the contacts list in your cell phone under ICE, with the name and phone number of the person that the emergency services should call on your behalf, you can save them a lot of time and have your loved ones contacted quickly. It only takes a few moments of your time to do.
Paramedics know what ICE means and they look for it immediately. ICE your cell phone NOW!
Recycling
If you should have
any problems with re-cycling or need a new container,
please
call the following number: 301-952-7630.
Special Note about Refrigerators
When putting out refrigerators for bulk trash pick-up, remember you must first REMOVE THE DOORS! Refrigerators pose a real hazard to small children who may suffocate after climbing into them and getting trapped.
Household Hazardous Waste Acceptance Site
County citizens and residents may now take their home-generated hazardous waste and old computers/electronics to the Household Hazardous Waste and Electronics Recycling Acceptance Sites on Saturdays. Only non-commercial vehicles are allowed at the acceptance sites, which are located at the Brown Station Road Sanitary Landfill, 11611 White House Road in Upper Marlboro.
For a list of acceptable items
collected at the acceptance sites, contact DER’s Recycling
Section at
(301) 883-5045, or visit
the county’s website at www.princegeorgescountymd.gov.
Drop off your old paints,
insecticides, household chemicals and computers!

Rodent Proofing Your
Property
Inside and Out
Over the last month or so we have
received calls from concerned residents about seeing rats on
or near their property.
Here are some tips to help
residents keep unwanted visitors away from their homes and
yards.
Inside
2. Make sure you have screens on your basement windows. Repair holes and tears.
3. Keep outside doors closed. Use metal trim to prevent rodents from gnawing and entering underneath.
4. Don't leave extra pet food out. Store food in a plastic, metal or glass container with a tight-fitting lid.
5. Clean up food and crumbs. Don't store food in lower cabinets.
Outside
1. Keep trash in heavy plastic or metal containers with tight-fitting lids.
2. Place trash outside shortly before pick-up time. Do not leave plastic bags outside overnight.
3. Keep yard free of weeds, trash and debris, so rats and mice don't have shelter or food.
4. Don't leave pet foods and waste outside.
5. Clutter attracts rodents. Dispose of unused building materials, boxes and yard waste promptly. Store lumber off the ground on a rack with clean, open space underneath.
6. Keep all vegetation 2 to 3 feet away from walls. Cut grass frequently to eliminate hiding places. Remove all standing water.
7. Trim shrubs and trees regularly so branches do not touch the ground.
8. Clean up fallen
fruit and seeds regularly so rats can't eat them.
