Letter From the Mayor
As a result of a statement by the State Highway Administration District
Engineer for the Landover Hills vicinity, that enhancement work of the
median strip along the portion of Annapolis Road (MD Route 450) that passes
through the Town of Landover Hills would be discontinued due to a lack
of funds; a letter was forwarded to the Administrator of the State Highway
Administration, requesting that efforts be made to acquire the necessary
funds to complete median road enhancement along Annapolis Road.

The Talking Badge
Chief Henry G. Norris
A little update on things that have been happening in your Town. There
have been several marijuana arrests, 71st Avenue, Taylor Street,
70th Avenue and Annapolis Road. PARENTS, you better start paying
attention to what your kids are doing. Don't be afraid to go through their
room as you would probably rather have them not be in jail and drug free.
So you have to become involved and talk to your kids and not after the
police contact you. We also still have a curfew in Prince George's County.
Where under 17 are not allowed out after 10:00 p.m. during the week and
12:00 a.m. on Friday and Saturday. PARENTS IT'S YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO
MAKE SURE THAT THEY ARE NOT OUT AT THAT TIME.
Stolen Vehicles / Recovered Stolen Vehicles : We had one stolen vehicle
where the keys were in the ignition with the motor running and the owner
of the vehicle only left it for several minutes. It is against the law
to leave your vehicle running with the keys in the ignition when you are
not in the vehicle and possibly some insurance companies will not pay for
the stolen vehicle if the key is left in the ignition. We've recovered
several vehicles that were stolen outside of Landover Hills. There have
been four arrest made by our department of individuals who were apprehended
while they were in stolen vehicles, three juveniles and one adult. It would
be very helpful to our residents and your police department if you see
a vehicle parked near your home that you can't identify belonging to a
resident or you see someone wandering around Town such as a juvenile during
school hours, or a person any other time, then please call 301-333-4000.
When you call this number give them the best description of the person
or persons and/or vehicles so that we can keep your property and vehicles
safe. I would like to thank the residents that called in to report a suspicious
vehicle which led to the arrest of three juveniles.
For all of you residents who haven't been on Annapolis Road lately,
construction has begun for the purpose of resurfacing of the roadway in
both directions. Be careful on the roadway as the roadway can be a little
hazardous due to the bumps and the surface of the roadway. There are construction
workers, barrels and equipment on different parts of Annapolis Road. Also
be mindful of pedestrians as most of the crosswalks have been dug up as
well. In a marked crosswalk or where a crosswalk would be, if a pedestrian
is in the roadway on your side, then the law requires you to stop and yield
to the pedestrian until he is out of the crosswalk. And for pedestrians,
it is your responsibility to cross at a crosswalk and to be mindful of
the traffic signals so that you are not walking into traffic.
It is getting warmer and we have an increase in bicyclists on the streets
of Landover Hills. The State of Maryland law mandates that anyone under
the age of 16 must where an approved helmet while riding on a bicycle,
non-motorized scooter or on in-line skates, this includes passengers on
bicycles. The Landover Hills Police Department has some helmets available
on a first come first serve basis. If you are coming down for a helmet,
you must bring your parent along with your bicycle. We will register your
bicycle, give you a helmet and some literature on bicycle safety.
The parent of any minor, or the guardian of any ward, may not knowingly
permit the minor or ward to violate any provisions of this law.
