As a result of the capture of persons suspected of terrorizing our metropolitan region in addition to other parts of the country, as snipers; the children and parents in Town who desired to carry on with the usual Halloween activities, were able to do so. Heartfelt sympathy is extended to the families and friends who lost loved ones as a result of this great tragedy.
During the Town of Landover Hills regularly scheduled Town Council Workshop session on Monday, November 4, 2002; a new Police Officer Cedric Whitaker, was sworn in by the Mayor, and welcomed to the Landover Hills Police Department.
Congratulations to those persons who fulfilled their civic responsibility by coming out on Tuesday, November 5, 2002, the General Election Day, and voting for the candidates of their choice.
During the Town of Landover Hills Town Meeting on Monday, October 21, 2002, the Mayor and Council selected from photographs taken by the Mayor, the type of Veteran's Memorial that will be constructed; in memory of all Veteran's, particularly those who have paid the ultimate price for the freedoms that we enjoy in this country.
The next Town Meeting will be held on Monday, November 18, 2002. As
always residents are invited to come out and participate.

The Talking Badge
Chief Henry G. Norris
Trick or Treat night was relatively quiet and very few young children
were out. There was one reported incident regarding a vandalism to an auto.
The only problem encountered was at approximately 8:15 p.m. there were
large groups of children of mixed ages still Trick or Treating. Some of
the residents who still had their lights on were probably very much surprised
and a little scared when these groups all approached the house at the same
time. Most of these groups were not in any type of costume other than some
had a mask on. I would like to ask the parents of children who go out on
Halloween Night, "Do you know where your children are, who they are with
and what they are doing?" Imagine if you were one of the residents that
had over twenty-five people converge on your home at one time and no one
was an adult! Some of the problems I noted on Halloween Night are:
As you know, the Town has two red light cameras on Annapolis Road and
many of you have received a citation for making a right turn on red. The
law allows you to make a right turn on a red signal if you come to a complete
stop at the white line prior to making your right turn. If you do not stop
but instead you slow down and continue around the corner, the camera will
catch you. If you stop completely at the white line and then proceed to
make your turn, the camera will not activate.
I would like to remind residents that you must stop completely at stop signs. There are still many of you who are using stop signs as a yield instead of coming to a complete stop. Also, the speed limit in the Town is twenty-five miles per hour and in some areas, fifteen. Please be mindful of the speed limits throughout the Town. When you park on the street you must park with the passenger side of the vehicle, the right side, to the curb. If you park with the left side (driver's side) to the curb you will get a citation for parking left wheels to the curb. This does not apply on one-way streets.
