all of the residents, Senator Gwendolyn Britt, Mr. Ken Laurey, representing
County Executive Jack Johnson, members of the Prince George's County Aviation
Section, Lieutenant J. Terrence Griffith and Deputy Wendy Stommel (K-9

Mike Thompson, who served up the hot dogs and beverages, Roderick Kennedy
and Gary Rowe, Public Works Staff members Leo Benjamin and James Ford,
town receptionist Shirley Weatherspoon, and of course Landover Hills Police
Chief Henry Norris and the Landover Hills Police Department, including
Town Manager Kathy Tavel and Administrative Assistant Juanita Hood and
their families; and again everyone else whose name was not mentioned.
A spin off from the "National Night Out" activities include rejuvenation
of the Landover Hills Neighborhood Watch Program. Any resident interested
in participating in this very worthwhile program, please contact the Landover
Hills Police Department at 301-773-6400, or sign up at the next Town Meeting

As a follow up to the ongoing saga of the infamous Stardust Inn situation,
as mentioned in last month's Chronicle Newsletter; at the Prince George's
County Liquor Board Hearing on Wednesday, July 14, 2004, the Liquor Board
upheld its former reversed decision of March 23rd; permitting
the Stardust Inn a stay in the revocation of its liquor license for an
uncertain period of time. The Liquor Board upheld their position in spite
of a recommendation that the Liquor Board impose conditions with the stay.
The community including all concerned parties have made it clear that
they will not relent in this matter, until there has been a satisfactory
resolution of the situation.

WHY ARE THE BAD GUYS WINNING???????
The bad guys are winning because they stick together. In our Town and
towns across America, the good guys are so busy working and going through
their daily lives, that sometimes they forget about the little things.
One of those little things is not knowing your neighbor. Not so long ago,
it was a practice to walk outside and have a conversation with your neighbor,
and neighbors watched out for each other. Today, in most families, work
has taken the place of really knowing your neighbors, and alarm systems
have taken the place of watching out for each other.
In today's society, the average person has a family, a home and is concerned
for the welfare of both. We would like to know our neighbors, we would
like to watch out for each other, but, where do we find the time and how
do we go about it.
On August 3rd our Town participated in National Night Out.
This is an event each year which focuses on gathering residents, community
officials and members of the police department together to meet each other
and to gain ideas on how to better protect their families, their homes,
have fun, and show that the good guys do stick together.
Another way that the good guys can stick together and win is Neighborhood
Watch. Now we know you will immediately think, Oh no! I don't have time
for meetings, patrols, etc. But we have come up with a different approach
that will not involve a commitment of time. Here we go!
First, we would like to have a meet and greet to get to know your neighbor
and have some refreshments. We will let you know when the date will be.
Second, we will be sponsoring crime prevention tips each month that will
be in the form of either a short presentation at the Town Hall, or on the
Town's cable channel, or in the newsletter. We would like to know what
topics you would be interested in. Please call our station at 301-773-6400
and let us know.
NATIONAL NIGHT OUT
We would like thank all of the residents that joined us on August 3rd.
This was our largest crowd so far with approximately 200 in attendance.
If you didn't make it to Night Out, you missed "Air One", the Prince George's
County Police Department's helicopter which landed next to the Town Hall.
You missed the Prince George'sCounty Sheriff's Department which included
their bomb dog and handler and having your child's fingerprints taken.
You also missed games, door prizes, good music, tons of fun, finding out
how fast you can throw a baseball, your bike being registered, your face
being painted, receiving a bike helmet, and a gun lock, or great crime
prevention literature. You also missed representatives from the Victim's
Rights Advocacy and the Sexual Assault Center. Hope to see you next year!!
